Excursion to Kamakura from Tokyo
On this excursion to Kamakura from Tokyo, we will explore Japan’s medieval political center. We’ll visit ancient temples and marvel at the Great Buddha of Kamakura, a 13-meter-tall bronze statue!
Itinerary
At the scheduled time, we will meet at Tokyo Station to begin our journey to Kamakura. Let’s go!
We will take public transportation to Kamakura and head to Hase-dera Temple, a Buddhist sanctuary filled with legends, built next to the sea.
Here, we will pause to admire the temple’s surroundings, known for housing over 50,000 small statues. You will be immersed in its tranquil atmosphere as we explore its caves, Buddhist halls, and panoramic terrace, which offers stunning views of the bay.
Next, we will visit Kotoku-in Temple, home to the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Japan’s second-largest Buddha statue. Standing over 13 meters tall and weighing 93 tons, this bronze masterpiece is an iconic symbol of the city.
Afterward, we will board the famous Enoden train line, which will take us to the heart of Kamakura. Here, you will have one to one and a half hours of free time to enjoy lunch on Komachi-dori Street, known for its shops and restaurants.
Once we’ve regained our energy, we will visit Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū, Kamakura’s most important Shinto shrine. We will walk through its scenic gardens, filled with cherry blossom trees, and admire the exteriors of this stunning 11th-century structure.
Eight hours after our departure, we will return to our starting point in Tokyo, where we will say our goodbyes.
